It was my junior year of high school and, as much as I hate to admit it, was the time in my life when I was most disciplined. My two best friends and I decided to follow a three-day juice cleanse plan. We figured that if we did it together, we would all be more successful. After both of them gave up, modified the plan early on, and ate solid food at about a day and a half in, I took it as a personal challenge to prove that I could make it the whole three days.
Here are some of the thoughts I had during this three-day challenge:
1. I'm SO healthy!
This came early on, around lunch time of the first day. The cleanse was still new, I felt full from the drinks I had that day, and, probably as a placebo effect from my determination, I truly felt the ~cleansing nature~ of the juices.
2. That donut looks so good.
This also came very early on. No matter how short the cleanse was, I still craved real food. And sugar. Mostly sugar. This made it difficult to stay focused at times.
3. These juices don't taste good anymore.
This may have been because the three-day plan consisted of the same drinks each day. I found myself enjoying the juices less and less, and was only drinking about a quarter of each of them by my third day.
4. I might pass out.
I felt faint for a good amount of the time I was on the cleanse, probably because I wasn't consuming nearly as much as I was supposed to be. I felt faint especially when I worked out.
5. I'm so hungry.
For the most part, I didn't feel hungry during my juice cleanse. I was hit by the feeling my last night, when I knew I was so close to the end. I remember, vividly, sitting in bed that night wanting food so badly, but being too stubborn to give in and admit defeat.
Overall, I wouldn't describe this as a bad experience, and I'm sure it could be done much better if I had stuck to the plan more thoroughly and drank as much I was supposed to. I probably wouldn't recommend this to anybody, but it was fun to prove that I had the willpower to make it through the three days.
