Because the first week doesn't go perfectly for everyone.

Thoughts I Had My First Week of College

Going to college can be an overwhelming experience. Everything you have come to know during the last 18 years of your life has just changed. I didn't handle that so gracefully, here was a look inside my mind during my first week at the University of New Hampshire.

1. Why do I completely forget how to make friends right now?

I came to college with the attitude that I was going to be this brand new person, I'd be super happy and bubbly, and then I got here and it was like I forgot what words were.

2. Yay! Pizza for dinner!

Freshman 15 here I come!

3. Why is everything so far away!?

Seriously? Walking 8 miles a day isn't going to work for me.

4. Oh, I have class in 50 minutes, I should probably leave now.

Usually, this would end in me getting to class half an hour early, but I just wanted to make sure to leave some extra time in case I got lost.

5. I'm going to go to the gym every day!

Until I realized the gym is almost a 30-minute walk from me, why go work out when walking to and from the gym is a workout in itself?

6. Oh Pizza for dinner, again.

That's okay, at least I'm burning off the calories with all this walking I'm doing!

7. I literally have no idea where anything is.

Day 2 I got lost for 40 minutes walking in circles around campus, and it was almost a hundred degrees outside.

8. Okay, class is over, time to party!

except... I don't know anyone...on second thought, Netflix it is.

9. I want to go home.

HOME! Where I actually have friends! maybe I can super senior at my high school.

10. My professor let me out of class half an hour early!

Wow, I love college classes!

11. Oh, pizza for dinner....again.

I'm really starting to miss mom's cooking.

12. I miss my dog.

How am I supposed to be away from my best friend for the next four years?

13. I miss high school.

I miss the friends, the teachers, the sports, everything.

14. My professor kept us four minutes late!

Class ends at 12:30, it's 12:34! I hate college classes!

15. *Seeing people post pictures with your best friend*

You can't call them your best friend, they're mine. ):

16. Pizza for dinner..AGAIN...

Mom I can't do this anymore. I'd rather just eat air.

17. Shoes in the shower? This just feels wrong.

18. Why do I still have no friends?

Seriously, how does one meet people?

19. I miss my TV shows

Sure, I could go to the lounge on the other side of the building..but even then I'll have to share it with other people, and watch whatever they're watching. No Bachelor in Paradise for me.

20. I miss my bed.

My comfy bed that has belonged to me and only me. I don't even want to think about how many people have slept on my mattress at school.

21 (Bonus!) I CAN'T WAIT TO VISIT HOME!

If nothing else, college has taught me to appreciate being home with family, friends, and privacy. It's a big change being in school but it's nice to know I'll always be able to come home.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
