The concept of picking a single design and having it on your body for the rest of your life is definitely equal parts scary and exhilarating. And then it comes down to the placement and it pretty much feels like one of the biggest decisions you'll ever make. In the end, it works out fine and you (hopefully) love it.
I just recently got my first tattoo on Friday the 13th so therefore it was definitely in a non-traditional setting as far as first tattoos go. Many tattoo shops run specials and deals on any Friday the 13th where the tattoos are super cheap and can be picked off of a flash sheet which means that they're pre-designed and all have a number 13 incorporated in them. It may seem a little trivial as far as tattoos go but the designs range a lot and offer a little something for everyone.
The experience was honestly amazing but there were still drawbacks. For one, only certain placements were allowed so that you can only get it on your arms and legs. This totally makes sense as they are easier and keep the process going but it is something to keep in mind. Another thing was the line. This obviously makes sense as everyone wants the deal being offered but it still can be crazy. I personally waited in line for about 2-3 hours but the shop was located in a place where there was plenty to do in that time but it is still something to keep in mind for an event like this.
A major benefit to getting my first tattoo in this manner is that it took some of then uncertainty out of the whole process. That may sound dumb or irresponsible but I could only pick from around 50 designs instead of an endless pool and it diminished the amount of second guessing so much that for once I didn't feel crazy obsessed over a small decision.
Getting my first tattoo was honestly so fun. I spent the day with friends and all of our tattoos have something to do with each other because of the 13 included which is cute in a way that isn't stomach-turning saccharine. I would totally recommend anyone who is nervous about the first one to go small and simple just, to get a taste of what it's like. At this point, I'm already ready for my next one.
