I recently had to take a friend to the Emergency Room (no need to worry, she'll be okay), and I realized I had never actually been to the ER before. It was a whole new side of the medical world I had never experienced. I thought I would document my thoughts on what happened on our 2 am adventure.
"Wow, I've never been here before. Where exactly should I go?"
"Oh right, probably where there is the huge sign that says 'EMERGENCY'"
"Out of the parking garage and heading to the front door. There really should be a better cross walk. What if I get hit walking her in? I mean...what if she gets hit..."
"There's a lot less people here than I imagined. Three people and none of them are gushing blood so I suppose it's a slow night"
"This sticker says Visitor 2. I am the only visitor. Where is the respect?"
"What a nice room"
"Oh wait, the remote doesn't work"
"And neither does the thermostat"
"Time to bug the nurse because we are both uncomfortably warm and that isn't really helping"
"I keep having to ask the nurse questions, I'm probably distracting them from their work"
"Wait, we are the work"
"I wonder what all those numbers on the monitor actually mean. Time to do some research I guess"
*reads about blood pressure for 15 minutes*
"I'm still confused. Glad I'm not in charge of knowing what all this means"
"There's no phone service in here. What if my roommate texted me asking where I was?"
"Oh yeah, it's like 4 am. No one is awake but us"
"Have we really been here that long?"
"How long do these tests take? I feel like we've been waiting for a super long time"
"Again, no one is awake but us. It will take a while for the results to be seen by a doctor because they aren't all here"
"I wish they had HGTV. Chip and Joanna Gaines would pass the time so much quicker"
"Hello again, nurse. Time to ask you a billion questions because I'm curious about what it's like to be an ER nurse"
"Oh yikes. Yeah good thing I'm not in the nursing field. I don't want anyone's bodily fluids flung at me"
"How do I leave to find a water fountain and look like I'm not lost and/or creepy"
"Oh my goodness. It's 6 in the morning. There is like no way to tell how long you are here if you don't have a clock"
"Waiting waiting waiting"
*falls asleep for five minutes in a chair*
"Oops. Nope. I'm awake. I wasn't sleeping"
"Hello doctor, can we go home yet?"
"Okay he didn't say but I'm hoping it's soon"
"Finally. 7 in the morning we can finally leave. Freedom awaits"
"Wait, I'm lost. How do I get out of here I wasn't paying attention the first time"
And then we were finally home. It was quite the experience and of course, I left out all the specifics to protect her privacy. I have the utmost respect for those that work in the medical field, especially the ones who have to spend their nights in the ER. The job is not easy (you have to deal with me asking a billion random questions for one) but they do a great job saving lives. But I mean, c'mon, HGTV is a must ;-)
