Thoughts From A Plane

Things that go through all of our minds 40,000 feet in the air.

Thoughts From A Plane

Traveling is something most of us "millennial" college students want to take advantage of. Between cross-country and international students, and study abroad, a lot of us take college as an opportunity to make a new identity for ourselves in a new place. This generation wants to see the world and truly experience life to the fullest. Most of the time, those journeys start by getting to the airport, getting on a plane, and getting ready for the ride:

1. We made it!

2. Why do they board so early? The plane doesn't leave for another 20 minutes.

3. Weren't we supposed to take off 15 minutes ago?

4. Oh! We're moving.

5. ..And we've stopped again.

6. If we leave now we'll be there exactly at 10:00.

7. ...okay, 10:20.

8. Oh! We're moving again!

9. I wonder how fast this thing needs to get before taking off...

10. The ground is tilting annddd...

11. We're in the air!

12. Everything looks so tiny.

13. Look at those tiny little ant people...

14. ...ant cars...

15. ...ant buildings.

16. Oh, right, clouds.

17. How does the captain really really know where the plane is going when they can't see anything from inside the cloud?

18. Oh, right, they have navigation things.

19. More clouds! Wait- we just came out of those.

20. It's really sunny today- wait, there were clouds, nevermind.

21. I usually wouldn't even have class until now during the semester.

22. OH MY GOSH THERE'S A DOG ON THE PLANE.

23.That was a lot of turbulence- I hope it's just that. I saw 'Sully'. I know what can happen.

24. I should be able to see from here if the engines had bird guts in them, right?

25. *This is your first officer speaking- I assure you what we just hit was nothing more than turbulence* okay okay great. I'll live.

26. Food time! Chips at 9:30 a.m., yes, please.

27. I wonder where we are...

28. Snapchat geofilters don't reach this high up, I guess.

29. My ears are popping now?!

30. I hope it's nice out when we land.

31. Are we descending already? That wasn't as long as I thought.

32. That dog is being so good.

33. Look at the tiny ant buildings...

34. ...ant cars...

35. ..ant people...

36. You know, it doesn't seem like we're going that fast until we basically hit the runway.

37. Was the landing supposed to be that fast? Or bumpy?

38. Dammit, I wanted to sleep. I guess that's not happening.

39. At least I'm alive.

40. What baggage claim did they say?

41. Are we ever getting off this plane? We're at the terminal people, let's move.

42. Vacation begins...now.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
