24 Thoughts That Go Through My Head During Online Classes

Let's get real - it's hard to give your undivided attention to online classes (I may or may not be typing this during a lecture). Trying to attend school from your bedroom is filled with distractions, not to mention that sitting in front of a computer screen for hours on end is exhausting. A lot of times, I find myself thinking about things that have absolutely nothing to do with the words coming out of my professor's mouth. Here are some of the thoughts that regularly cross my mind during online classes,

1. Is this lecture recorded?

2. I deserve a nap after this.

3. How does that person not realize they're unmuted?

4. Wait, am I muted?

5. Oh sh*t, I stopped paying attention.

6. Now seems like a pretty good time for a bathroom break.

7. I should really stop online shopping during lectures.

8. I am never going to have the motivation to go to in-person classes again.

9. I hope my professors still view me as a professional after seeing my Stitch stuffed animal in the background.

10. So many strangers have seen the inside of my bedroom.

11. I am paying thousands of dollars to scroll through TikTok during class.

12. I have not gotten up from my desk once today.

13. What should I have for dinner tonight?

14. I will probably never meet most of these people.

15. Not another breakout room.

16. I would rather be watching Netflix.

17. Please don't make me unmute myself.

18. Oh look a notification, I should probably check that right now, it might be something important.

19. I could always just say that my Internet cut out.

20. Maybe I will just take my laptop and lay in bed.

21. Does anyone know what's going on?

22. I hope I get to see someone's dog.

23. Is everyone staring at me or am I just staring at myself?

24. I wonder if I'll ever set foot in a classroom again.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
