Summer means freedom, fun, and... unpacking?

By the end of the second semester, most college students are DONE. The constant studying, endless assignments, sleepless nights, and lack of food have taken their tolls, and there's nothing more we want than to just go home.

... Or so we think.

In the beginning, it's great. We get to see our family and old friends, finally get a decent meal, and hopefully, catch up on sleep. However, after a few days, the reality sets in, and the truth is, we're bored. We're lonely. We miss our friends, our routine, and (GASP) even our school.

Throughout the emotional rollercoaster that is summer, there are some universal thoughts we just can't help but experience in one way or another.

1. Why do I have so much sh*t?!?

Between packing, moving, and unpacking, the amount of crap that has managed to accumulate becomes a bit daunting.

2. I didn't even use this...

I'm talking to you pancake griddle. What cruel trick was played to make me think I would ever have the time (or willpower) to actually make gourmet breakfasts.

3. I can't wait to sleep.

If you're anything like me, you barely make it in the door before collapsing on the couch.

4. I'm so hungry.

After months, of surviving on packaged goods and caffeine, the thought of a home-cooked meal is enough to make you drool.

5. OK, where is all the food???

Do they just stop eating when we're gone? There aren't even eggs in the fridge.

6. I can't wait to do absolutely nothing.

The first few days upon returning home are like some sort of magical grace period where you're not responsible for anything or anyone. After running around trying to juggle class, jobs, extracurriculars, and some sort of social life, it feels so good to just relax knowing there is nothing you should be doing instead (except maybe finding a job).

7. Do I really have to unpack? ... I'll just have to put it back in a few months.

OK, so you need your stuff, but you literally just packed it all up. Can't it just stay there until the fall?

8. Grades should be in...

Once the last final is handed in, it's hard to care what actually happened. However, sooner or later grades will come to your mind, and it's entirely up to you to check the damage done.

9. I'm Bored.

Once the first few days have passed, you begin to get restless. You're not used to being dormant, and you start to miss the hectic hustle and bustle that comes with being a college student.

10. I can't wait to go back.

Eventually, you can't take the boredom any longer. Your school has become your home, and you miss it. You can't wait to see all your friends, grab food at your favorite restaurants, and start the new year.

... That is until the stress sinks in, and you want to go home. It's a vicious cycle, huh?

It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
