At first, it’s a relief getting to come home. The stress of finals is over, so now I can watch Netflix without any kind of guilt. A break from school, exams, and 8 a.m. classes is exactly what I need. This will be great. And at first, it is great, but then the post school depression starts to set in...

“How many days until I can move back to [Insert College Town Here]?” Aka, the first stage of post school depression. All in the world is great until this thought crosses your mind. You were doing fine at home, but all the things you wanted to do at home have now become boring. You’re starting to miss the spontaneity of college and other little things.

At this point, everything starts to remind you of the memories you and your friends made back in your college hometown. You begin thinking of all the things your college hometown has that your home hometown doesn’t have. “The Target here isn’t the same as the one back in [college hometown] or “There’s absolutely nothing to do here, I wish I was back in [college hometown].

Then comes the part where you start missing everything, like, “I miss my friends, I miss this and that restaurant, and I miss the homeless man that lives by the local grocery store.” Even the things that you didn’t think you would miss, you do. And it's those things that make you realize that you don’t know what you have until it’s gone.

You find any and every reason to go back to your college hometown. “Well maybe I should take a trip there because I borrowed my friend’s shirt before we left and I’m sure she absolutely needs it ASAP.” OK, so in reality your reason to go back isn’t that legitimate, but you’ll think of anything to get you back.

You start to wonder how you ever lived without your college hometown. “How in the world did I ever live in this town for more than three months.” Yeah, your hometown may not be horrible per se, but it will never compare to your college hometown.

Most of us still may be counting down the days to return to our lovely college hometown. We’re looking forward to the reunion with friends and the fun memories that will be made within the next year. It may seem like a lifetime away until move-in day, but on the bright side, you know you picked the right college if you’re counting down the days to get back.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
