Spring semester is quickly coming to an end. The weather is getting warmer (unless you go to school in New England), and summer is right around the corner. Teachers are now talking about final exams, and scheduling classes for the fall is upon us. For my fellow college juniors, this means you are scheduling classes for your senior year. This whole process is extremely exciting, but at the same time extremely terrifying. Here are some thoughts all college juniors are having at this exact moment.
1. I have to actually be an adult now
For many people, this is the hardest part about senior year approaching. Life was so much easier as a freshman or sophomore. There were no real responsibilities, and one could get away with pulling the underclassmen card when they made a mistake or were feeling lazy. When I was a kid, I thought college seniors were so old and mature. Now that I almost am one, I feel so far away from either of those things.
2. I have to figure out what I want to do like ASAP
Personally, thinking about life after college is pretty scary. Looking for jobs in "the real world" sounds like a huge task. Also, I still am at a point where I do not now what I want to do. I will switch future career plans on a weekly basis. I have nothing lined up for when I graduate, and the fear of living at home until I'm 30 is now starting to seem like a legitimate option.
3. I have to get an internship?!
Internships are essential for getting a job after graduation, like it or not. It is one of the only ways to get "real world experience" while still in school. Finding a good internship is just as hard as finding a job, if not harder. Most internships are unpaid and are "just for the experience", so often this means taking 15 or more credits, working a job, and interning. Now that is a juggling act only a senior can handle.
4. Where did the time go?
It feels like just yesterday I first stepped foot on campus as a nobody freshman. I was so excited about my college career ahead of me. Now, as an almost senior, those days have all passed in a blink of an eye. I sometimes wish I could go back to those carefree days of not having to stress about the future. But I also am pretty excited. Graduation will make all my hard work these past four years worth it, and graduating with my real friends that I have had for four years is a dream. Also, the real world may be close, but theres still time to enjoy college for one last go around! Finish strong my fellow almost seniors!
