As the end of the semester draws closer, the weeks start to blend together, and the countdown to winter break begins. Every college student is waiting for their next break from classes, and is thinking these 17 things while they're going through the average week.
How much longer until the end of the semester?
Students are always ready to get to the next long break, but most importantly, to the end of the semester. The semester is so close to being over, but there is still a lot more that needs to be done in classes.
How long until I have to start studying for exams?
Depending on when your exams are, either during finals week or during the last week of classes, it changes when you need to start studying. Finals aren't something that you should wait until the last minute to prepare for, but sometimes you have to figure out just how long you can put off studying.
When are my exams?
While it's something that you go over on the syllabus at the very beginning of the semester, as the semester goes on, the less likely you are to remember exactly when your exams are. You might know what days the exams are, but odds are you're not entirely sure what time they are.
When is our next assignment due?
While you were worrying about exams, you forgot when your next assignments are due. In all of my classes, we show up and ask each other if something was due that day. If you find yourself questioning if something is due, you're probably ready for the semester to end.
How many more assignments do I have to turn in?
When you're leading up to the final exam, you're getting close to the end of the semester and being able to say that you're done with assignments until finals is so rewarding. Being able to count down the number assignments left is one of the signs that the semester is ending.
Is that today?
Whether this is related to something you agreed to do or just what the date is, you're not really sure exactly what is going on. On a daily basis, you have to check and make sure that you didn't forget to do something important.
Can I skip class?
If there isn't anything due, and there isn't anything interesting being talked about, then you really have to debate going to class. Taking a day off for yourself is important, but you have to make sure not to overdo it.
How many more classes can I skip?
Each class has a different attendance policy, so it depends on how many classes you've already skipped, you might be able to miss more of one class than another. By the end of the semester, skipping classes becomes an art.
Did I do that?
You know those things that you said you were going to do, and now someone is asking you about it. Hopefully you actually did it, but there's always a fear that you didn't do it when asked.
Why does it have to be so dark so early?
With just ending Daylight Savings Time, the sun sets so early. It's hard to stay motivated and keep working when it's dark outside when all you want to do is take a nap. You're constantly debating if it's okay to go to bed at 6 PM, as soon as the sun sets.
Do I have time to take a nap?
With it being so dark out so early and the end of a long semester coming to an end, a nap is what sounds best to everyone. It's not a question of IF you want to take a nap, it's a question of if there is enough time in the day to take a nap.
Do I have to do this?
Whether you made plans that you no longer want to follow through with or if it's something for class you really don't want to do, you find yourself wondering if you actually have to do it. You're so close to getting to take a break, but that doesn't mean that you can start taking a break now.
Why is everyone on campus getting sick?
When it gets cold for the first time, everyone gets sick. Sometimes it's just a cold, other times it's like the plague is coming through campus. Everyone gets sick at least once, and it always happens at the most inconvenient time.
When do I get to review my professors?
Some professors you really love, others you can't wait to tell them how bad their class was. Reviewing professors happens at the end of the semester, so being able to do this means you're one step closer to break.
Do I have to start planning for next semester already?
You've scheduled your classes, but do you have to start putting dates in your calendar for next semester? I was both excited and angry that I had to buy a new planner for next semester. I'm not prepared to think that far in advance, I have enough going on during this semester.
What are my plans for break?
Odds are, you've been so focused on the semester ending that you haven't thought about what you're going to do over break. Now that people are asking you where you're going to be and what you're going to be doing, it's probably the first you've thought of it and don't have an answer for them immediately.
How many more semesters do I have left?
At the end of every semester, you can't wait until graduation. Every semester that you finish means you're one semester closer to graduation, and doesn't everyone want to graduate?
