Thoughts on Betsy DeVos
Democracy Now

I don't even know where to begin with this woman. How is she being considered as the Secretary of Education? For those of you who don't know who this monster is, Betsy DeVos is the potential new Secretary of Education. The Department of Education deals with all education ranging from early education to higher education. This department has heavy influences on regulations regarding proficiency, students with disabilities, safety of students, and funding of schools. This is probably on of the most important departments and the role of Secretary of Education should not be taken lightly. This directly affects the future of America because children are our future.

Let me tell you a little bit about this woman. She has never been to public school and never sent her children to public school. OK. Those are things I can look past, sure she might not have gone to public school, but that doesn't mean she is against public schooling, right?

Nope.

She "doesn't believe in" public schooling. WHAT!? She supports the defunding of public schools and the funding of charter schools and for-profit institutions. Let's just remember that Trump created a for-profit college where he cheated money out of students. This lady is nuts. When answering questions on the day of her confirmation, she never actually answered the questions. Simple yes or no answers had an evil smirk and a hidden agenda attached. When this chick was asked about guns in school, her answer was that there should be guns in schools like one in Wyoming just in case of grizzly bears. I cannot make this up. Grizzly bears.

She believes that public school teachers are overpaid. Excuse me? Teachers in America in general, are severely underpaid. She believes that states should decide what their policy is dealing students with disabilities. This means states can deny students equal access to learning which is detrimental to a child, their parents, and the teacher.

As a future educator, I really fear for what this means for our country. If the resources and support are not their for children, we will not have educated children. Listen lady, just because you could afford private school doesn't mean everyone in the country can. Everyone deserves to be educated. Everyone.

This. This is why I was afraid for a Trump presidency. People didn't believe that he could really screw things up. Here we go. This is a massive screw up.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
