In about a month, I plan to pack up from my college apartment and move into Chicago. But where will I move to? That's the real question. My roommates and I have started searching for a new apartment, and it's reminding me just how annoying apartment hunting can be. Here are a few of the things I've thought over the past few weeks.
- So if I make $___ a month, these guides say I should pay no more than $__ for rent... Oh. Yeah, that's not much.
- Well, I bet I can afford something in this neighborhood...
- Yeah, not so much.
- Oh, wait, this place looks nice! And I can afford it!
- Yeah, if I want to live in a bedroom that's like 7x6.
- In an apartment without a dishwasher.
- With laundry across the street.
- Oh, but what about this one!
- Just kidding, it has one too few bedrooms.
- This one has carpet that hasn't been changed since the '90s. The 1890s.
- This one is in the sketchiest neighborhood possible.
- And this one is about $1000 over my budget!
- I give up. I'm moving home with my parents.
