Mother Nature can be relentless at times, especially when living in the Midwest. You can experience days with 60° differences, rain, snow, or tornados all within a 24-hour span. From torrential downpours to whiteout blizzard conditions, hours could make a difference. Within the recent years, there have not been well-defined seasons. They all blend.
Let's be honest; meteorologists aren't the best at their jobs. Here are five thoughts about Missouri weather.
1. The Snow Forecast Is Never Accurate
Frequently, the meteorologists predict the lowest amount of snow possible and a blizzard occurs. Two winters ago, I remember the forecast was, 'a dusting of snow.' Three inches of ice and seven inches of snow later, Mother Nature finally ended her wrath on Missouri.
2. When It Rains, It Pours
Anyone who has been in Southern Missouri, especially in the Springfield area, knows this all too well. Downtown Springfield becomes a lake. In the Northern areas, it isn't much better. The rain has nowhere to go but just settle where it lands.
3. Tornados, Need I Say More?
This weather phenomenon doesn't occur widespread in the United States, but Missouri is a prime target in "Tornado Alley." What you see on television does an accurate job representing tornadoes; things are destroyed, ripped to pieces, and thrown around.
4. The Heat and HUMIDITY
If you've lived an entire summer (and early fall) in the Show-Me State, then chances are you've experienced this. The combination of heat and humidity are awful. There is absolutely nothing more that I would trade away faster than the humidity.
5. Why Is The Weather So Sporadic?
There are some days where the weather is a pendulum. One step outside the sun is shining, the next step outside it's downpouring. You'll rarely be able to predict the weather in Missouri.
