Alright guys, it's officially my favorite time of the year! It must be something about the cozy fireplace gatherings, white snow-filled landscapes and celebrating this season with loved ones-- but I just can't get enough. Along with Holiday season comes a different atmosphere as well. Many of us are running around, frantically trying to pick out the "perfect" gifts for friends and family, instead of actually cherishing our time with them.
I remember one specific time this year where this has already occurred. It was on Thanksgiving, when my family and I were sitting around and spending some much-needed time just relaxing and enjoying each other's company. As we were sitting there, reminiscing on old times and telling stories to one another, we saw a commercial come up on the television advertising a Black Friday sale that was to begin that night (since when was Black "Friday" moved to Thursday?). Anyways, we all saw that advertisement and instantly felt the need to bundle up and brave the cold in order to get the best deal on presents for the impeding Christmas gatherings. I remember being somewhat disappointed that we live in a society where the season of giving has now turned into a competition to see who can buy the biggest and best objects.
I would like to remind everyone that this time of year is not about the gifts themselves, but the love and thought that goes into each one.
Instead of spending all of your time and money on buying "things", why not try to make your own? I promise you, the person who is receiving your gift will enjoy it so much more if they know that you care enough to personally make something for them. It is so easy to get caught up in all of the sales, deals, and steals that each store is promoting, that we often forget the true meaning of the word giving. Give each other your love, your time, and your presence instead of tangible objects.
I hope that you all have a happy holidays, filled with irreplaceable traditions and joy.
Xoxo,
Noelle
