To Those Hating High School, College is Better

Only a few more months until you're on your own. It's worth the wait.

College: something you’ve probably been thinking about it your whole life. You grow up cheering for the school where your parents went or your favorite state schools. As it becomes closer and closer to the days when applications are due, you’ve probably gone through some struggles through high school. Mean girls, broken hearts, pressure, stress, and more are almost guaranteed in high school. Not saying that these issues aren’t seen in your college days, but I can tell you that college is better in every single possible way. College is the time to try new things, make new friends and discover what you are truly passionate about.

For starters, you pretty much can start your life over. No one knows your past unless you tell them. You don’t have to be the same person you were in high school. You no longer have to pretend to be someone you aren’t or pretend to be into things that you truly aren’t. College gives you the option to meet thousands of new people and find people that are similar to you and are interested in the same things as you are. Also, there is no petty high school drama in college. Everyone just wants to make friends and have a fun freshman year which is definitely a nice change compared to high school.

Another cool thing about college is that you have the chance to take classes you’re actually interested. In college you can control which classes you take and when you take them which is awesome for those of you who hate waking up early – your classes could start at 1 pm instead of 7 am like you’re used to. College = doing what you want when you want to. Also, you can wear the same outfit on Monday and Tuesday and no one will even know you’re an outfit repeater.

Your age doesn’t really matter. Freshman hanging with seniors? Totally normal here and you won’t be judged for it. You are free to make friends with any and every one. There are so many people on campus that have no idea who you are and you don't know them either! It really is the perfect place for new friendships. Plus, you finally get to meet people that actually live more than ten minutes away from where you grew up.

Having a roommate is pretty cool, especially if they are your best friend like mine is. Cleaning the room is much more fun than it used to be and every time you begin getting ready to go out it turns into a dance party. Also you always have someone to share a late night pizza order or insomnia cookies with.

Most importantly to me, you can nap – any and all the time. Since you normally have breaks in-between classes, you no longer have to wait 8 hours before taking a nap. Now your bed is less than a mile walk from your so you are free to nap between classes or after they’re done.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
