This Year I Am Thankful For...
Selena Barnett

Every year, the week of Thanksgiving, I make a list of at least 50 things I am thankful for. This year, there are so many things I am thankful for. My family and friends are just a few. The past year has been full of God’s blessings and his graces. This list was so easy to write. I learned so much in the past year, and I have so much to be thankful for. So here is my Thankful list for Thanksgiving 2016.

  • My Momma; I really do not know what I would do with out her this past year.
  • Patrick, my incredible boyfriend.
  • My religion, being able to practice my faith freely in this country.
  • My home.
  • My family.
  • The food I get to eat.
  • Netflix.
  • Fuzzy socks, because who isn’t thankful for those?
  • Pumpkin Spice Latte; I mean, duh.
  • Pablo (Jorgia’s Dog).
  • Being able to work.
  • Clothes, because I love clothes.
  • Hair products.
  • Wifi; let's be real, we are all extremely thankful for this one.
  • When it is sunny but raining at the same time.
  • Naps.
  • Cookie dough.
  • My health, even though it has been a rough year with this one, I am still thankful for being as healthy as I am.
  • Heat in winter.
  • Air conditioning in summer.
  • Being able to control my shower temperature.
  • My car, even though I have beaten it up pretty good, Prjncesa is still going.
  • Being able to get an education.
  • Military protecting my freedom, #Merica.
  • My rights as a citizen.
  • Chocolate chunk ice cream.
  • Air Force spouse support groups.
  • For my shoe collection; I am seriously obsessed with shoes.
  • Donald Trump being the new President.
  • Mike Pence being the new Vice President.
  • Victoria's Secret.
  • Being able to go shopping, because I love shopping.
  • Running clear water that I can drink.
  • The holidays, because honestly, everyone loves Thanksgiving and Christmas!
  • Make up; I do not think I could live with out it.
  • My bed, my bed, my bed and my bed.
  • Scented Candles.
  • My phone; seriously, think I would die with out it.
  • My childhood, because it was the greatest.
  • Starbucks.
  • Messy Buns.
  • Black Friday deals.
  • My talents.
  • Finding things to relax me.
  • Communication.
  • My long distance relationship, because again this year, same as last, it has constantly taught me the importance of genuine love and patience.
  • Throwback Thursday, because I love the early 2000’s music.
  • Those who have helped me in anyway get through this past year.
  • For realizing when some people say sorry, it does not always mean they are sorry.
  • For understanding that sometimes, certain people just are not supposed to be in your life, and that is their choice.

This year, I want to challenge all of you to make a list. You could go around your table saying something you are thankful for, or you could just write it down in a journal to look back on next year. Happy Thanksgiving everyone; enjoy the turkey! :)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
