What I'm Thankful For This Year

Thanksgiving is around the corner. it's time to reflect upon the things and people we're thankful for in our lives!

With all of the negative things happening around us (nationally, personally, academically) we should definitely take some time over these next couple of weeks to be grateful for all the things we can control in our lives and the things that make us smile.

It's so easy to think of all the things we wish we didn't have but have we really ever thought about and been happy with the things we do have? From the bed we get to sleep in every night to the meals we eat every day; we need to be appreciative for the people that make these things possible for us, and the patience they have for us, and the patience we have for ourselves for the things we can't control.

We should aim to be thankful all year long, but if we start small and reflect over these next couple of weeks; we can begin to transform the way we think about things. Love, thanks, and forgiveness are all things we can improve on every day.

So when you're sitting around your family's house around Thanksgiving break drooling over the turkey, mashed potatoes, various pies and desserts, take a second. Start to think about all the people around you that made that day possible and thank each and every one of them for their efforts. Because after all, without them you would be sitting there hungry and grumpy. Nobody likes that, am I right?

So give thanks to someone you know! Even if you don't have a traditional family or dinner coming your way this year. A co-worker, roommate, sister/brother, boss, cashier, gas attendant, friend or bus driver! You never know who's day you might have a positive impact on!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
