On December 1st, former NFL play Joe McKnight was shot and killed in a road rage accident and his admitted murderer was released today without charges...

The ongoing North Dakota Pipeline controversy, internet known as #NoDAPL has not been getting a lot of attention within the black community. Briefly, the well being of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North Dakota is being threatened. A multibillion dollar pipeline project proposed to infiltrate their reservation land has significant potential to contaminate their water supply and expose them to chemicals. The government is seemingly unresponsive to their concerns and it has been reported that aircrafts have been hovering over the area, dispensing what residents believe to be chemicals, in order to weaken the protestors... As seen in history the well-being of Native Americans has never been a major concern of the "American People"....

The officer that shot and killed Keith Lamont Scott will not face charges, as he reportedly acted lawfully in his use of force. He was reportedly armed and the video shows evidence of some bulge that could be a gun. However the problem is that this officer acted lawfully. Morally or ethically, not so much maybe, but lawfully yes. And so the problem lies within the fact that the law protects an officer on the way to investigate another crime being able to intervene and kill someone from some odd feet away, WHILE the victims wife explains he has a PTSD condition. This is unacceptable.

Additionally, one lone juror is holding back the process of indictment for the officer that fatally shot Walter Scott. As you may recall, last year officer Michael Slager pulled Scott over for a brake light malfunction, Scott told the officer he was on the way to get the light fixed, eventually Scott fled on foot after exchanging words with Slager, leading to Slager chasing Scott, tasing him and then it is shown on video of Slager shooting Scott IN THE BACK, 8 times... One juror is holding out on his conviction and for whatever reason, protecting the officer that lied about the incident, delaying justice

Everyone's favorite finesse kid, Kodak Black, is out of jail... but before we all rejoice, we must remember that he was put in jail charged with sexual battery, and while he has not been proven guilty, the sexual assault kit has his DNA. I personally cannot comfortably support and rejoice this when it is possible that he is a rapist, and if it is it makes me even more uncomfortable that if he is convicted, some of you will still continue to say #FreeKodak

And Flint, Michigan still does not have clean water...

If you aren't upset, you're not woke...

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
