Attention all thrifters, this application for your smartphone will ruin you. Depop, a thrift-based shopping app, has an eerily similar set up to Instagram. Instead of social photos, however, the app prides itself on hosting thousands of users that buy and sell secondhand items. Depop allows users to create a profile, follow other users, and like items that are of interest to them.
Founded in 2011, the application strives to change the way you shop online. Lingerie, vintage pieces, streetwear, shoes, and jewelry are just a few examples of what can be found being sold on the app by users all over the globe.
Depop users can list an item of theirs for sale, with the ability to set the cost and the cost of shipping. Options include national shipping and global shipping.
Buyers and sellers can accept payment through the app or through certified Paypal -- which, as you might have guessed, makes the app completely safe to buy/sell from (within reason).
Depop allows users to browse items via category, size, and by user.
A big downside to the application is that it is not really refund friendly. It is a big thrift store, after all. Buyers have to rely on sellers to accurately size the items that they are interested in. A pair of jeans can be listed as a correct size, but with no ability for a try on, buyers may find themselves with an item that simply doesn't fit.
Overall, though, the application is extremely addicting for those who like to both thrift and online shop. Being able to do both is like a dream come true, especially when it maintains that excitement thrifters love about having to really dig for a cool item worthy of buying for cheap.
Depop is compatible with iOS and Android.
