Walking around campus the past couple of days has felt a lot different than it has the past few months. Everyone is outside, wearing t-shirts and sunglasses, laughing and enjoying the end of the cold, painful winter. I was sitting in the library yesterday doing homework and watching a couple of kids swinging each other in hammocks. I just felt genuinely happy because of the weather.
I'm from Vermont so I'm used to long winters and a lot of snow, but if you're like me, after the first month of snow I'm pretty over being cold all the time and the constantly gray skies. I don't have depression, but if I did I would most definitely have seasonal depression. It is a lot easier for me to be sad or feel down in the winter. It's scientifically proven that the sun makes people happier. Vitamin D? Some people with seasonal depression have light therapy lamps in the winter.
Even though the winter can seem long and tough, once it's finally over and we have a sunny, 60 degree weather day that we can take the time to enjoy, and some days, we just have to create our own sunshine.
