A few people have been asking me if I’ve seen the show Shameless and my inside voice is like when do I have to time to watch a show, but my outside voice no I haven’t seen it, but when I have time I will check it out. So one day I was sitting after reading so I thought let me check this show out.
I sat down one day because I didn’t have anything to do, so I was like why the heck not, let me check it all out. The show is based in the south side of Chicago and the south side is considered ghetto, poor some even call it the slums. The show is amazing I have to admit there hasn’t been a series of what the realness of living in poverty and beyond that. It made me cry because I had no idea that people live this way, not that I’m naive but it’s nothing I’ve seen before. I was raised in the suburban area where people had pools in their back yard and two story homes were built.
Shameless is a show that is about six kids, a bi-polar mother Monica and an alcoholic father Frank that can’t seem to stay sober if his life depended on it. Sisters and brother’s Fiona, Philip (Lip), Ian, Debbie, Carl and baby Liam. Fiona quits school to take care of her siblings because the parents don’t know how to be parents. Fiona meets her neighbors Veronica who works in an old folk home and Kevin who works in the city bar called the Alibi, they become good friends that turned into family. They help Fiona with the kids. The rich boyfriend Steve Jimmy who comes from a doctor father and a homemaker mom, Steve leaves home for college to be a doctor, he soon drops out of college now steals cars and falls in love with Fiona.
The older brothers Lip and Fiona do what they have to do to help pay rent and the bills. Their struggles are an everyday issue but as a family they truly stick together. They work together through it all, trying everything to keep everything. Lip is absolutely smart, genius. A teacher finds him and his girlfriend who secretly applies to colleges for Lip and Lip gets so upset, not seeing how smart he really is, he’s blind to see his potential. This show is a must see, I don’t want to ruin it. It’s a long series about 45 minutes a show, but if you have some time and haven’t seen the show try to watch it.
