This One Is For You, Mom

To the greatest woman I know.

This One Is For You, Mom
Taylor Whitsel

To the greatest woman I know, this one is for you. From the very first day, I entered this world you have been by my side and you will remain there until the good Lord decides it is time to go. No matter what I've done, or where I have gone, you have been the constant in my life - the one thing that I know will never change. This one is for you mom. Even though there isn't anything in this world that I could ever give you or do to thank you for what all you have done, I want you to know that you are the most amazing woman I know.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for shaping me into the woman I am today. You didn't ask for the cards that you were dealt and you definitely could not have prepared for the things that happened in the first few years of our lives, but you took them in stride and you did the best you could, and let's just say, you've done a kick butt job. You would never have pictured yourself being a single mother, let alone a single mother of twins. But you made it work.

You taught me how to never give up, even when all the odds of life are stacked against you. Even in the hardest times, you continuously gave your all to me and Trit so that we always had the very best in life; no matter what it took. You have shown over the years that your strength isn't defined by anyone else but it's shown in those times when you fall down and get back up over and over again. You've shown me true strength when people have tried to walk over you, but you stood tall with your head held high and kept pressing on.

You've shown me true beauty comes from the condition of your heart and that your worth is not defined by what others may think of you or say of you. You've shown me how to love unconditionally and with everything. You've been a true picture of hard work and dedication. You've shown me how to truly be selfless.

Through you, I have seen Jesus. I have seen you down on your knees in prayer. I have seen you hold tight to the Lord even when life got really dark and scary. I have seen you overcome some of the toughest events in life. I have seen you broken but be rebuilt even stronger.

You truly are the definition of an amazing mother and I am so thankful that you are my mom. I couldn't imagine going through life any other way than what we've been through. It definitely wasn't always easy but we always made it work. You did this mom. You took a situation that could have been horrible and you loved for two. You never let us go a day without feeling loved, even if we did have a parent missing. You filled that void every single day and for that, I am forever grateful.

You are beautiful. You are strong. You are phenomenal. You are an outstanding mother and I am blessed that you're my mother. I love you to the moon and back, forever.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
