This One Thing Everyone Should Do For A Successful And Happy Life

Let’s face it, when we reach adulthood, we get thrown into the rat race, and have to continue going through life in the best way possible. Whether we’re paying off the bills, socializing with friends, or pursuing a future spouse for the rest of your life, we are being pulled in many directions that can eventually wear us down.

Life isn’t meant to be lived on a day to day routine. Millennials are beginning to realize that there is more to life than a weekly paycheck, but what can we do to change the normal pattern?

I have been studying some of the greats in our society. I wanted to peer into the minds of those who are successful; not in the sense of economic or social class but successful in finances and freedom to do whatever they want. That’s when I discovered something that changed my whole life.

Oftentimes, they are asked,”What is the one thing that you did that got you to where you are?” Their response was voiced in different ways, but they always had the same point and the importance of it.

So what is this important thing that we need to do? What is the one thing that can pave a path of success, freedom, and happiness?

Learn.

As simple as it sounds, there is so much potential in one word. What do you want to learn? What can you learn that will strengthen the skills that you already have? Where would you be if you could learn how to do a particular thing? The options are truly endless.

As you dive into the life that you want to create for yourself, find what will empower you to get there and pursue everything you can to get in that direction. We are in the era of technology and information. All that you could ever want to learn is at the tips of your fingers. All you need to do is put in the effort.

The one thing that could cause more harm than good is aimless learning. If you have no clear purpose as to why you’re learning a particular skill or a passion behind the learning, then you won’t get far if at all and you’ll be stuck with a skill that adds no value to the life that you are wanting to pursue.

If you decide to learn music of any kind, ask yourself why you want to learn it. Is it for entertainment? Is it for relaxation? Is it for playing in a band? There are many reasons, but you have to make that decision for yourself.

Do you want to learn how to code? Find out why you want to learn. Is it to build a website? Create a program for a company? What about for yourself?

You really can learn anything and everything you have ever wanted to, and it is all thanks to the era that we live in. If you don’t have a skill or a goal that you want to achieve, find something and go after it with all that you can. There is nothing that is holding you back, so do what you have always wanted to do. You’ll be surprised at what you are capable of.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
