It seems that Millennials have been looked down upon by Boomers for a variety of reasons. They seem to have a preconceived idea that we are this rebellious, self-absorbed generation, and so I thought i'd set the records straight. This one is for the millennials.
Believe it or not, we do not think our phones are the most important things in our life. Yes, we are on them quite often, I cannot deny that. But we do not value virtual followers over real-life friends or behind the screen time more than face-to-face interaction. We do not believe that what is happening on our screens is more important than what is happening around us. Technology is a huge part of our current society though. We have been surrounded by advanced technology for the majority of our lives, and taught to use it in school for as long as we can remember. Technology is our future, and that is what we have been told for a very long time. We have adapted to the changing time, yet we are constantly criticized for our technology usage.
We are not self-entitled and selfish. We work hard for what we what. Times are becoming increasingly stressful. It is harder to find jobs out of college and nothing seems to be financially safe now a days. We know that if we want to be secure in the future, we have to do it ourselves. We do not expect others to give us freebies, and we do not just lay around and wait for others to do things for us. We go out and get it done.
We are not "rebels", we just realize that there are a lot of changes that need to be made, and we are not going to just sit by. We are passionate and driven to make a difference. Millennials are sick of seeing the unjust and unfair things happening in the world, and seeing no action take place. We have all heard the the quote "Be the change you wish to see in the world". Millennials are doing just this.
Millennials are sick of being criticized. We are just doing our best with what we have just like every other generation.
