This One's For The Nephews

Scrolling through your Facebook feed on any given day you'll find articles written for nieces, about what it means to have a niece, and all the things we'll do for them. But what about the nephews? We tend to forget about those little boys who sneak their way into our hearts with their dimples and Nerf guns. So let's take a moment to appreciate those two foot nothing little boys.

To my sweet nephew,

I still remember the day your mommy told me she was going to have you. I can't lie, I was scared. I didn't know how I was going to be able to share my love with another little human. I thought your sister was getting every ounce of love that was in me. Oh lord was I wrong. The day you were born, I can still remember holding you in my arms and in that moment I realized that there's no such thing as not enough love.

Over the past two years, I've gotten to watch you grow taller, smarter, stronger, and into a personality that I adore. And as the years go on I know that I will watch you grow in all these ways and many more. But I need you to remember few things:

You will always be my little man.

You had my heart from the moment I met you and there's nothing that will change that. When you're bigger and you think you're too cool to be seen with your auntie, remember I have all the embarrassing naked bathtub photos and I'll whip em out.

I'll always be in your corner.

Whenever you're fighting with your parents or your friends remember that I'll always be on your side. As far as your parents go, you know they have your best interest in mind but that doesn't mean you can't disagree with what they have to say. And for friends, they'll come, they'll go but you've always got me and I promise we can have more fun and get into more trouble together than you could with any of your friends.

I hope you always get excited when you see me because I get excited when I see you.

We won't be able to see or talk to each other every day, but when we do it won't just be on holidays or special family events. I'll call you on the days that I see a cute little boy walking down the street that reminds me of you. I'll take you out of school on a random day just to spend some time with you. We'll both be busy, but I'll make the time for you.

I love you my sweet boy and I couldn't have asked for a better nephew to call mine.

You're a blessing, one of the best kind.

Love,

Your favorite aunt

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
