Everyone has an opinion about a certain subject. Everyone has their own thoughts and how they feel about whatever is going on in the world or their own current world. By current world, I mean their own lives. I noticed that in this world there are many people that just take someones opinion or thoughts on the world and make it theirs. That is one of the greatest injustices you could do to yourself because you are losing your free mind.

A free mind is important for each of us to have. A free mind is important because it is part of your individuality, and part of being free or happy to be who you are. You are your own person with your own thoughts, goals, opinions, and want to live life how you want to live it. No one can really tell you what happiness is to you, what a fulfilling life is to you, or who you truly are. We are all different. There are some thoughts, and things we want out of life that could align with others because at the end of the day we are all still human. We all want love, happiness, to complete our goals, to be supported, to not be so alone, and the list goes on and on.

Taking someones opinion just because it seems right or logical isn't right because that makes you a clone. A clone is bad because you are living an unfulfilled life. Your mind, has become a copy of different peoples thoughts. At that point you are basically dead it is just not official yet. You are dead because you sold your free mind, soul, and ultimately your entire being to be a follower of someone else. You were looking for answers as to what is right, who you are, what you should want, and what direction you should take in your own life. Does that person or those people you are following the footsteps in actually know the answer you truly seek? Some people may have the answers to the questions you have, but they cannot give you the answers to the all questions you may have been asking yourself all this time. People can help guide you on your journey in your life, but they cannot lead you on your own journey. They cannot lead you because all of our journeys are different. No two journeys are the same. They can guide you by asking you a question you may not have asked yourself. That person can tell you what happened in their journey and how they got their answers, so you can use them as somewhat of a "cheat sheet". I believe that we should look to guide one another rather than lead the whole way.

Having a free mind is important because you are on your own journey. You cannot copy someones elses journey or follow their every move because you are only wasting your unique life. A life is unique and should not be reduced to a mere copy of another individuals.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
