This Is What Your Body Is Telling You By The Second Week of The Semester
The Mighty

When we go on break, we tell ourselves that our bodies need breaks so we can be refreshed for the next semester. So we sleep in every single day because we never get that sleep during the semester. We eat whatever we want because we try to eat healthy all the time while we are at school. We say the week before we will try to get back on schedule so we are prepared for the semester! Except we do none of that because the break sneaks up on us and we are dying by the second week of the semester! I wonder what our bodies could actually be saying to us by this time? You know what, I will take a wild guess what they could be saying due to forcing our bodies into the harsh world we call college.

Dear whomever this body belongs to,

WHAT THE HELL!? We had a plan! The brain literally us told that we needed to prepare for this! Yes at this point I was telling you to not worry about it because I told you that we had more time or just that I was very sleepy. I also told you I wanted more sleep because you put me through hell so I wanted to be pampered from head to toe!

So I will take partial blame for this, but like really what did you do to me!? I was sleeping in until probably 10-12 and now I am waking up at 8 or 9!? Do you see how HORRIBLE that sounds for me? I understood for the first week because we had to jump back into it, but wait that was not the only thing you did to me! You put me through PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES that you did not prepare for me! You did not do any of that over the break! The most you probably did was go to the kitchen to make food or walk to the bathroom! I cried at you for a couple of days because you did not warn me about what was to come!

FEED ME! Did you read that correctly? Please do not just feed me junk food or the same bubbly, carbonated stuff you know won't help you through your long day! I need 3 meals a day at a MINIMUM! I don't care if you get all the food groups in or not: I just want meat or protein, and everything that gives me energy! Protein shakes sound just fine as long as it has what it needs to make it a meal and just not because it taste good in milk or water. I am your growing body no matter how much damage you have caused me so far. YOU NEED TO TAKE CARE OF ME!

I appreciate what you have done so far, but we have until May to get through this and you need to do better!

Sincerely,

Your Body

Well I mean I am sorry body and I will try to do better! I like sleep a lot and thought that is what you wanted...I guess not! So to everyone else who is dragging in their second week, listen to what your body is telling you! We only have one and if we do not take care of it we may not one and who doesn't love their body?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
