This Is Why Coworkers Makes A Retail Job Enjoyable
The Odyssey Online

Let’s face it. Not one person likes going to work. Especially when it’s retail. It’s a nuisance to sit around all day and think about working the night shift just as much as needing to wake up early to go in for the morning shift. It isn’t fun unless it’s a job you really love doing and that is rarely the case.

What exactly is this article about if I started it by just complaining about the thought of work? Well I have an answer that is quite relatable. We don’t like the thought of work, but what makes the environment better are your coworkers that feel like your best friends and even family. Those people are the ones that make your shift better when you just want to turn around and walk out those doors just as quickly as you entered them.

Our coworkers are the only ones who understand our hatred for the ever so famous line, “Oh. There’s no price tag on it? Then it must be free!” No. It isn’t free and we’ve heard that line over one hundred million times. What about when we tell them our policy and they request to speak to the manager? It's quite hilarious to see their facia expressions when our manger tells them the same thing we said.

Let’s not forget that our eyes may one day fall out of their sockets from rolling them so hard at the many maddening mishaps that happen each day. Not only do our coworkers relate to this, but we help each other out. Whether it be helping stock shelves, carrying furniture for a customer or just listening to each other vent about what made us angry that day. We’re there for each other because we know exactly how it all feels and we won’t judge one another.

Another great thing about our coworkers is that we hang out away from the walls that surround us in our own personal hell. We easily make lifelong friends through work and that’s one of the best things about it. Even the older coworkers hold a special place in our hearts because maybe you see them as a grandmother or older brother. This brings a sense of comfort in knowing we’ll always have someone on our side and to always be there for us in the certain way that we need.

So, yes. Work sucks. No one likes dealing with rude customers and rainy days, but our coworkers manage to make it doable and we do the same in return for them. It helps us keep our sanity intact and makes us become a better person. Never take your coworkers for granted because you never know how lucky you have it until you come across a new job with snobs. Take what you can get and always thank your lucky stars you have it made with the oh so “awful” part-time job because the truth is, it's pretty awesome when you have the right people by your side.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
