I once remember telling someone that they are like Patrick Star because of this gif:
To say that my friend was happy to be compared to a crying starfish isn't the case.
But I thought about that moment. Patrick Star may be a couple crayons short of a full crayon box, but we are all a little bit like Patrick Star. And honestly, I don't think that there is anything wrong with that.
Patrick Star is the epitome of who we are, and probably what we all secretly want to be. Like, when we sleep we all don't sleep peacefully. Patrick shows us that beauty sleep might not be a physical thing...and we will sleep anywhere if we can.
Most of us have a short attention span, or we get easily distracted. Really long classes, a dragging conversation, or even just a really boring television show can do this. Classically, and we might not ever want to admit it, we make this face:
You also can't deny it because I've seen it happen many of times to us in classes.
We also love to eat. And we aren't ashamed of it...Patrick is just like this too. We shouldn't be ashamed of loving food because, well, it's the best thing ever.
I might be a human vacuum, but honestly who isn't when there are wonderful things in the world like pizza and chicken nuggets?
Sometimes, we have too good of a time and take a tumble. Or you're like me and you just constantly make a fool out of yourself.
But, there's something that Patrick Star is that we all really are. Patrick is a loyal friend, and that's what that first gif really shows. We are all a little bit like that because we care about friendship. Most of us care a lot about the people that make us happy and have the best friend that we care about the most. Patrick needs Spongebob, just like Spongebob needs him, and we need our friends too. Many of us are also just a bit naive, but that's the thing about people; we are a little bit naive. We like to think of the good in the world, like Patrick does, and we believe that happiness is the key to the world...which is really is. He's the little bit of reality that we all tend to forget in ourselves.
So, if someone ever calls you a Patrick, just think about how wonderful it is to be a happy starfish who has the best friend he could ever have. You might be a bit lucky to be that.
