This Is Not The World I Want To Live In

We were all humans until race disconnected us, politics divided us, and judgments blinded us.

This Is Not The World I Want To Live In

I guess I've always been a little ignorant to what kind of world that we live in today. When I came to college, that all kind of changed for me because I was thrown into a pool of diversity that I was not accustomed to. Looking back to a year ago today, I don't think I realized anything was wrong with the world but now today, I see the world isn't just sunshine and flowers anymore.

I don't want to live in a world where I hear little black boys at work talking about police brutality. These are children and shouldn't have to be worried about getting gunned down if they make one wrong move. I don't want to live in a world where children can't be children.

I don't want to live in a world where police brutality is this huge problem. Police are paid to protect all people, so why are whites being fully protected and the others are having a problem with them? People say there isn't racism, but that's because they are the problem.

I don't want to live in a world where people can't openly admit how they feel. We live in a world of hook-ups, “he said, she said”, lack of communicating, and casual dating. Everyone is afraid of commitment and to let people see the real you, under the façade of what everyone else sees. Being a hopeless romantic in this world that’s stuck in a hookup culture is a special kind of hell and not a world I want to live in.

I don't want to live in a world where an eighteen-year-old girl can't go to a musical festival without being ridiculed. Malia Obama has gotten so much negative press because she missed the last day of the Democratic National Convention so she could go be an actual teenager. Why does it matter what she is doing? She isn't the leader of the free world, her father is.

I don't want to live in a world where we can't take care of our war veterans. I'm sick of seeing our veterans neglected the attention and medical that they need because we would rather give them the cold shoulder than deal with the problem at hand.

I don't want to live in a world of ignorance. I think it's time that more people open their eyes to the problems of our society and acknowledge that we do, in fact, have a problem. It's not something to blame on our government. It's not the president's fault. It's not Congress' fault. It's not our mayor's fault. The problem is "we the people." So "we the people" need to open our eyes sooner rather than later.

I want a world where our children can be happy and carefree. I want a world free of racism, where people don't see color. I want a world of love and commitment. I want a world of no judgment. I want a world where we respect those who served us. I want a world of awareness.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
