Raise your hand if you have something called your seat in every classroom you have a class in.

Yeah, many people do. This is a perfectly normal thing to have a seat that you normally sit in for each class period you attend. I know I do and I can tell you exactly which chair I used to sit in during every class I have ever had. (Maybe I shouldn't have said that last part. *shrugs*)

Now, I am not talking about a seat that your professor assigns you. (Because, like, what professor even does that in college? None.) I'm talking about the 'unassigned-assigned seat.' The seat you choose to be yours on the first day of the semester and decide to stay with for whatever reason makes your heart happy. The seat that everyone knows you sit in while they sit in their own unassigned-assigned seats.

This is how to tell if you have a specific, unassigned-assigned seat in a classroom:

1. You have reasons why you like that seat over all the rest of the seats.

"I can't see the board if I sit over there." Or "This seat is the perfect distance from the door in case of a fire or something, duh."

2. You have had multiple different classes in the same room and you still sit in the same seat.

Best friends for life. (Yes, you can be friends with a chair if you want. I won't judge.)

3. Switching seats is not a thing.

"You want me to what?" Definitely not.

4. You get upset when someone sits in your seat.

I mean, this seat is yours.

5. Like, super upset that someone got to class before you and is now sitting in your seat.

Fuming mad right now.

6. And you don't get to sit in your seat, so you look at your seat and glare at the person in it from your not-your-seat seat.

Long distance relationships can be hard.

7. You think about telling that person that they are sitting in your seat.

Because, obviously they should know that you always sit in that seat when you are in that room.

8. You bottle up your anger and tearfully resist telling that seat stealer to get out of your seat.

Tears, upon tears, upon tears...

9. You decide from here on out that you must always run to class in the hopes that you will get to your seat before anyone else.

Just make sure you apologize after class to the people you knocked over in the hallway.

10. You get to your classroom out of breath and you see it...

You can't believe your eyes.

11. "My seat!"

It's empty. It's all yours. Your seat has been waiting just for you.

12. You smile to yourself as you sit down in the best seat in the house.

You can't help but feel accomplished that you made it to your seat before anyone else.

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.

I've known you your entire life. More than likely I held you in the first three days of it and at least one of us cried. Cousins are truly one of the best things in the world and while sometimes I complain about how many people crowd Grandma's living room on Christmas Eve, I wouldn't trade you all anything.

You are my best friends, the only people who can understand what it's like on Thanksgiving, and you are the spunkiest people I have ever met. But you as so so young, most of you are just now starting your adventures in the public education system. I mean, I'm so very young too. I'm not married, I don't have children, heck, I just started my adult life, but I do want to give you what little advice I have. My dears, these are the things I want you to know.
