Dear Self,

No one knows you better than you.

DEAR SELF,

I think it's time I sit you down and speak the truth. Negativity seems to have gotten the best of you and it's changed you, you've lost who you are. Take a step back and evaluate your life and find where the negative energy is surfacing from. You are so much better than the negativity around you, you deserve better. Stop thinking you deserve what is being thrown at you, stop believing what you hear is true, stop getting beat up by the nonsense around you and stop letting adversity tear you down.

I know you struggle sometimes but in case I don't tell you enough, you are beyond strong. You may have hit an obstacle a while ago, just now, or you are headed in the direction of an obstacle, you, out of all people, can overcome it. Right now you might be in a situation that you think you won't survive but six months ago you were in a situation that you didn't think you'd survive and a few years before that you were in a situation you didn't think you'd survive and the point is you will always surprise yourself and you will always make it through. You have gotten to this point of your life and I am so proud of how far you have come and how much you have accomplished in such a short time.

Look at you, you are greater than you give yourself credit for. Remember, this is going to be your year, so get up and start living the life you deserve. (Ps. Wake up with the mentality that every day is going to be a good day and just be happy!) You have been hated, made fun of, hurt, lied to and have encountered many negative people in your life. Unfortunately, this is going to happen the rest of your life, so accept it now and learn how to forget about it. Easier said than done but you have the ability to shut out the negativity in your life. Stop struggling to be what you think you are supposed to be and just be your amazing self. I know that you have days when you feel like you aren't worth it, question why people love you and that is okay. But, please remember there are so many great things about you; your smile, your eyes, your personality, your laugh, your uniqueness... I could go on and on about how perfect you are despite what anyone says about you. Don't ever question your beauty or worth. Your beauty and your worth are more valuable than you'll ever know. Beauty is about the potential you see in yourself, not about what you see in the mirror.

What I am telling you may be hard to understand and you may not want to listen but no one knows you better than me. I know that with time, you are going to be living the life you deserve. You have so much to live for, just keep living day by day. Wake up with the motivation to live a happy life. Everything is going to be okay, I promise.

With love,

Self

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
