An Open Letter To My Best Friend Since Birth

Dear BFF,

“Friends since the womb” has been our slogan for as long as I can remember. However, it is true; we've been friends since the day we were born (even though you are a month older than me). Our mothers were good friends before we were even born; so you can say that we were forced to be friends because of them, but I’m so glad they encouraged our friendship. For 18 years I’ve known you and I can’t wait to see where our future will take us.

Let’s start from the beginning. First off, it isn’t a coincidence that we live about 6 houses apart from each other. Every time we wanted to hang out, it was always just a walk away. Or just a phone call away since I memorized those 10 digits and constantly asked Mrs. Ebert if Rachael was home…

Our little adventures were the best too; we were like peas in a pod. I remember it like yesterday, we were playing in my backyard pretending we were in jail or making mud pies. Or even the time we rescued a turtle from its death because it was heading toward oncoming traffic. Our entire life we were always in it, and I can’t thank you enough for giving me such great memories.

Even in school we were always together. Unfortunately because of our rowdiness in kindergarten, we never had any classes together in all of elementary school (maybe if you didn’t keep kicking my heels after I butted in front of you in line, we would’ve had classes together). However, we went to the same middle school and eventually had some classes together! Then in highschool we had even more classes together and got into as much trouble as we did in elementary school, some things never change. But after highschool; we finally parted ways and went to different schools. We are now three hours apart and I miss you more than I ever have.

Sometime I feel as if I took our friendship for granted. We’ve had our ups and downs, mostly just me being an idiot. And still to this day; I don’t know how I got so lucky to keep you in my life and call you my best friend.

I want to thank you Rach.

Thank you for being my best friend. The person I can always talk to about any situation; always a phone call or text message away. Thank you for your forgiveness. I was a stupid child who made many wrong decisions, but you were always by my side regardless. Thank you for giving me 18 years of great memories. From spending every summer together to having crazy adventures on a daily basis. Thank you for being you and for including me if your life.

I love you so much and I can’t wait to see where our future takes,

Love your best friend.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
