Move over, human mamas, April the Giraffe has been in labor for nearly five days, and Facebook just can't get enough of it.
The live stream of 15-year-old April the Giraffe at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York has yielded thousands of viewers to the 12NewsNow Facebook page. As of 1 p.m. eastern time on Tuesday, February 28, there were more than 46,000 views.
April the Giraffe and her mate, Oliver, have been side by side in separate pens waiting for their new arrival. The Internet is growing impatient as they watch April walk back and forth, lay down and sleep. The most action anyone has seen is April licking the camera. According to zoologists, giraffes can be in labor for anywhere between hours and days.
The live stream was temporarily taken down following reports of the video being sexually explicit. This was done in an effort to fight for animal rights by activists who were angered by April being enclosed at a zoo. However, the video was reinstated after it was realized to not be breaking any rules. Many argued that the live stream is essential to keeping people educated on and interested in animals such as giraffes.
April, we are all rooting for you! And for goodness sake, can someone please get this glowing mama-to-be some ice chips for her troubles?
