Thank you, Dad

Dear Dad,

I cannot thank you enough for all that you have done for me. I hope your Father's Day was everything and more because you are everything and more to our family.

Thank you, Dad

For being my #1 fan

Thank you for supporting me in my passion for dance. Without your financial sacrifices, I wouldn't have been able to learn all of the life lessons that dance taught me over the years. I will forever be grateful for your support in doing what I love.

For giving our family the world

Our family vacations have given me a love of travelling. From Ireland to Aruba to Hawaii, you have given our family the world. These are memories that will truly stick with me forever.

For always supporting me

Leaving for college has definitely made me appreciate all that my parents have done for me. I can't thank you enough for supporting me as I make my dreams come true at college. I hope I can make you proud as I gain a career of my own. I wouldn't be where I am today without your support.

For keeping me weird

No matter how stressful your day was at work, you are always your weird self around our family. You've taught me to embrace my weirdness. I like that I can be weird around you because you are the weirdest of them all. I love each and every one of our silly moments together.

For fostering a love of sports in me

You've taken me to baseball games since before I can remember. Thank you for teaching me the game. I like that I can talk baseball with you now. Watching Penguins' hockey with you is also one of my favorite things. I know, even when I'm old with my own family, I will always want to watch Pittsburgh sports with you.

For giving me the strangest nicknames that will always stick with me

I am almost certain that no other father in the world calls their daughter Pants. The origination of the nickname still remains a mystery to me, but it has become our little thing. There's nothing better than when you come home from work and yell "PANTS". I know sometimes I act like I hate it, but I secretly do appreciate it.

Happy Father's Day, Dad. I love you!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
