I was told to write about something this week, but I have nothing to talk about. But since I'm talking about nothing, I am indeed talking about something. Because, you see, there's no such thing as nothing. Nothing, coming from "no" and "thing," is impossible to comprehend.
If I were to ask you to think of nothing, you would actually think of something. Most would think of a black canvas stretching on into eternity, while others may think of a white canvas doing the same. But, you see, thinking of a color would still be thinking of something.
If one were to argue that black is the absence of color and that our universe, the majority of which is made up of empty space, with galaxies and celestial bodies thrown here and there, there is still something within that "nothing." It's very true that there's empty space between our planets, but that isn't "nothing," it's merely an empty space. If it were nothing, even that empty void itself would be non-existent.
Therefore, could there ever be a "nothing"? Scientist will say at the start of the universe, there was nothing, and then suddenly something happened, resulting in an explosion of countless somethings to create something out of nothing. But in fact, if there truly was "nothing," there would be no "something" to create something out of nothing, for it wouldn't exist.
If you go by the Creation account, God spoke and something was created out of truly nothing, as there was nothing that existed before Him and without Him. He, an Eternal and all-powerful entity, who always has been and always will be, simply Was. He spoke into this "nothing" and created "something," which is the universe and everything in it. The order and laws we see in our daily lives, from gravity to thermal-dynamics, to the construction of our bodies, to our perfect placement in the universe itself, the planets and stars, the air we breathe, the animals and plant life, and even ourselves.
Getting back to nothing: Can we ever claim that there's true "nothingness"? Or do we have to conclude there is, and never will be, "nothing," as there is no thing and "nothing," since something obviously lives within "nothing" once it's talked about?
If a friend asks what you're doing, you may reply by saying, "Nothing," if you're not doing anything exciting or productive and you're simply having a lazy and stress-free day. By saying you're doing "nothing," it would imply that you, in every single way imaginable and in every single circumstance, are non-existent and aren't contributing anything. Rather, you simply aren't doing anything at the moment, or you have no plans for the day and are relaxing.
I believe there is no such thing as "nothing." Because everything we do, no matter how little, we are still doing "something."
