Ever since the show Thirteen Reasons Why came to Netflix, much controversy has circulated implying this show glorifies suicide. Although this is the premise the first couple seasons of the show revolves around, it's hard to imagine how anyone could reach such a conclusion. After all, immersing oneself in the world of Liberty High School has proved nothing short of devastating. However, this show and the people involved strive to show viewers that there's always something to live for even when the wounds in our life feel like they'll never heal. Since I began watching the show, I've noticed a few things that I thought needed to be shared.
1. Some people are mean, but there's always someone who cares.
2. What we've been through/experienced does not define us.
3. We get to decide how we react to others' actions.
4. Building a solid support system is everything.
5. Take the time to observe and listen rather than talk. Although those we cherish the most may say they're doing fine, perception is important. Not all battles bring noise.
6. Other people don't need to feel the pain you felt. It's not your fault, or the fault of the kid next to you, that you had a rough home life.
And lastly...
7. Never stop fighting.
