It’s that time of the semester again, the third week. You’re far enough in and the ball keeps rolling as you slowly realize what you’re in for. Homework begins to pick up, as well as the reading and studying. The reviewing from previous courses and/or introduction aspect of the course is coming to an end as you start to dive into new material. It's such an uneasy transition because you now know you're in it for the long haul. All your important due dates are written in your planner, and you have an idea of what to expect. Now its time to relax and remember to not let school manage you because you can easily manage school.
1. Stay True To Your Planner
Planners are SUCH and amazing tool to use to stay on track! They're nice because you always have a reference to look back at to make sure your'e where you're supposed to be. Writing down the task/event helps you remember it as well. Some people (myself included) like to have a little extra fun with their planner and decorate it in stickers, use cute markers to write things down, and color code each class. Experimenting with planners is always a good way to get started with one. I designate one night a week (Sunday) to review my weekly plans and write it on a white board on my fridge so I can constantly see it when I'm home. The bottom line is figure out what works best with you and do it.
2. Make School YOUR Priority
Temptation is all around us... Movies, shows, bars, games, and so much more. Recognizing that is important when you're trying to balance your life. I'm not saying spend every night feverishly studying, but letting yourself say,"No" to people is important. It's all about balance; if you have a paper due this week but nothing next week its common sense to work on your paper this week and go out next week. Have a homework party with your friends! The bottom line is school is your ONE job right now. A good majority of people do have jobs but you're the only one in charge of your homework so you are the only one who can make yourself accountable.
3. Have A Game Plan
Having a game plan in mind is always a good idea so you can be prepared for what's next. You can't risk not looking at a syllabus to find out that there is a test you're nowhere near prepared for. Planning ahead is so important because then you feel confidant and ready for the semester and what the classes have to offer. Then you can learn to your full potential because you feel comfortable with where you're at in the class. So cheers to fall semester, lets make it a great one!
