Third Straight Win For The Sooners

The OU women’s volleyball team remained undefeated in the Big 12 conference with a win on the road at West Virginia on Wednesday night. The first two sets of the game went to OU, with scores of 25-17 and 25-12, before WVU forced the third match, with 25-20. The Sooners finished the match with a 25-15 win in the fourth set.

Oklahoma hit better than .350 in all three of the sets that they dominated. They out hit the Mountaineers .308 to .067 and won in the fourth set, by hitting .500.

Redshirt sophomore, Madison Ward, led the Sooners with an impressive 16 kills for the game, and made just one error for a .359 attack rate. She also added in seven digs and averaged 4.33 kills per set. Ward’s contribution to the team has made her the stand out player for many of the games, and she has totaled 52 kills in the last three matches.  In Big 12 play, Ward is hitting .414 and averaging 4.33 kills per set that she has played in.

Juniors, Julia Doyle and Taylor Migliazzo, also helped the Sooners find victory over WVU. Doyle handed out 40 assists, including 13 in the first set. She totaled 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. Migliazzo, the libero for the Sooners, led on the defensive side of the team, with 13 digs. Freshman, Marion Hazelwood, also aided the Sooners with five kills and five blocks.

This win over West Virginia marked the 100th for head coach, Santiago Restrepo, in Big 12 play. It was also the second match out of six, that the Sooners will have this season. Overall, the Sooners are now 12-4 and 3-0  in league play.

The Sooners take on Texas Tech and Baylor in the next week, and then are back out on the road to continue their chase to be this year's Big 12 champions.

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
