With the United States debacle that is the 2016 election, many people of the United States are not pleased by the candidates that are the presumptive nominees in both the Democrat and Republican Parties. The biggest change was Bernie Sanders as he brought many young people to express their views on the current policies, but was not able to win enough states to win the Democratic nomination. With a large population of voters who is unsatisfied from the Sanders supporters and the Republican Party being torn apart from the appointment of Donald Trump, we have a prime ground for something groundbreaking. A serious third party for the 2016 elections. The myth that a voting person has to use party loyalty or choose the lesser of evils is becoming a myth thanks to the Libertarian and Green Parties
.
Gary Johnson
Former governor Gary Johnson is the Libertarian Party Presidential Nominee for the 2016 election. He was the candidate for the 2012 election receiving 1 percent of the vote. Johnson is the leading third party candidate in the 2016 election, polling around 10 percent alongside Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. William “Bill” Weld, another former governor, is his running mate, and both have sought media attention after being chosen as the candidates at the Libertarian Convention.
These two former governors have made strides in the election and are still working hard to get on the Presidential Debates that likely show Trump and Hillary insulting each other. Johnson/Weld platform includes many issues, including support for civil liberties and a balanced budget. To improve the economy he would cut income taxes. What many people might find strange from this conservative tag-team are the many liberal ideas these men have. Abortion and LGBT rights are issues the Johnson/Weld ticket is supporting. The candidates also want to end the War on Drugs and would fight to legalize marijuana and trade incarceration for drug use with drug rehabilitation. Johnson’s platform also includes improving immigration to allow immigrants to gain citizenship easier and faster. He also plans to end wasteful intervention in the world and rebuild relations with strategic importance.
The Johnson/Weld ticket for the 2016 election will be on the ballot in all 50 states and deserve a voice in the Presidential Debates as a serious candidate for 2016.
Jill Stein
Another prominent candidate that is gaining national recognition due to the emergence of Johnson is the Green Party candidate Jill Stein. To make it clear, the Green Party has been around for awhile, but the wanting for a third party has shined a spotlight onto her. Stein chance to gain votes from the disgruntled Sanders supporters, whom many have verbally said they would not vote for Clinton.
The issues Stein is running her campaign is a more environmentalist platform with strong liberal tendencies. On her platform, Stein includes a Green New Deal that would create jobs on renewable energy and conservation methods to create a safe and clean environment for the present and future. She also supports Health and Education as rights to people and would set a $15 minimum wage for all individuals. She also plans to improve women and LGBT rights and end discrimination. Like Sanders, Stein plans to fight big banks and Wall Street to make them pay their fair share. This, in turn, would destroy the grip big money has on US policy.
Stein is not on the ballot in all 50 states, but support by the voters who do not like a candidate who is similar to the candidate that they did like should look into this woman to help put her on the ballot in more states. The amount of support she can have would bring her into the election as a third or fourth party candidate and lead to an interesting debate.
Important!
Do not ignore the vote. Many people are unhappy, and their concerns are not being expressed when this is the year to get both of these parties national recognition. Do not ignore these people, their parties, or their potential.
