What Do You Think When You Hear The Word Soulmate?

If you close your eyes and think of the word “soulmate”, who is the person that pops in your mind? Is it just one person? Did multiple people show up in your mind? If you were asked to define the word soulmate how would you do it? What do you think a soulmate is?

This past week and interesting question popped up in the group chat that Ashland’s Odyssey team has. The question was “Do you believe in soulmates? Is there only one?”

We had many different answers in the group chat and we found out that some of us think exactly alike. Some argue that there can be more than one soulmate throughout your lifetime. Their explanation for that is that some people show up in your life and are meant to be in your life at that point in time. If you feel that those people are your soulmates, who is anyone else to tell you that they are not? It all depends on how we define soulmate or how you define soulmate personally.

I asked this same question when I was at AU for Orientation Team. I received the same answers when I asked my fellow O-Teamers. There were many people who said that they believe that there are multiple people in your life and are supposed to be there at that time. They are just helpers along the way. Those people help you and teach you various things so you will be prepared and the best you when you meet your one true soulmate.

My opinion? I think that there is that one person out there for you. However, you might have already met them. You may have already had a relationship with them and it has ended. Maybe it was just not the right time for you guys. Maybe you haven’t met them yet. I totally believe in ‘the one’. Some days I think that I have already met my ‘one’ and it just wasn’t the right time for us. I won’t know if that was ‘the one’ until later in life. And some days I think that the best is yet to come. I might have met that one special person in passing and I won’t know until I meet them again later in life.

So, I can’t really give you one solid definition of what a soulmate is. I can’t say it is/will be your significant other, because not everyone I talked to believe in that. I can’t say that it is your best friend because some people that I have talked to strictly believes that a soulmate is your significant other. I can give you the dictionary definition and that is: “a person with whom one has a strong affinity, shared values and tastes, and often a romantic bond”

Who knows? Only you. What is your definition of “soulmate”? What do you think? Have you met your soulmate yet? Are you sure?

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
