It's no lie that most teenagers can't wait for the college experience, craving the freedom to express yourself and unleash your true independence. What most people don't think about, though, is the things us college students miss about college while we're at home for the summer. Don't get me wrong, being at home and having free laundry and free food is absolutely great, but it's so different from where we were for the past year.

1. Land of the free.

Like I said, the freedom is unbelievable. There's no parent or sibling breathing down your neck, asking you to check in every hour or so. I was almost dumbfounded by the fact that I no longer had to give my mom text message updates of my every move.

2. Roommates, and people always around you.

I don't know about you, but my roommate and I spend every moment together. If I'm sad, she's right there. If I failed an exam, I can walk home from class with her, ranting the entire way. There's just something so awesome about having someone with you at all times who is on the same schedule as you. People are always around you. If you need someone to hang out with, it's easy to find them and plan something out. Whether it's at the cafeteria, or in the library, there's people around to hang out with and talk to.

4. Boredom doesn't exist.

Because there are so many people around, there's also so much to do. My first year of school, I was so busy with class, studying, practice, and whatever else came knocking on my door. College is a place where you can explore and have freedom and fill your days with whatever you want to do.

5. Dorm rooms

Dorm rooms are honestly the bomb. I hated it at first, because I am a hoarder and need a bountiful amount of space for all of my junk, but I grew to love my small room. I had the comfiest bed, the cutest lights, the right amount of furniture, it all was perfect. I was so comfortable in my room. I felt so happy that it was my own little place where I could escape to or hang out in.

6. Endless food at the cafs.

Although sometimes it can be icky, it's still endless.

7. Packages

I looked forward to getting mail from my grandma and mom every week, whether it was $5 in a little baggie, or my favorite snacks during exam week. Getting real handwritten cards and hand picked goodies in the mail is one of the best feelings in the world.

8. Loud people at 2 AM.

You were crazy and loud and often kept me up, but.. now I miss you.

9. Creating a schedule for YOU.

I'm someone that needs to have everything planned out, and I like things on my terms. So, picking my class schedule, planning out my naps, planning out my meal times was absolutely perfect for me.

10. Parties (obv.)

Even if you're not into the actual partying, going to a frat or sport house party to people watch and dance a little bit is one of the best stress relievers. You can always find a party on a college campus, walk in, and jump up and down with some random screaming girls and forget the stressful classes you had during the day.

11. Campus scenery.

It's so different from my hometown scenery, it's a perfect amount of change. And, campus is always changing, there's always something going on, and something to look forward to.

College is one of the greatest experiences of all time, I think now I am realizing I may have taken it for granted and wish it wouldn't have gone by so quickly.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
