Having a dog, especially being a first time dog parent, you find yourself talking to your dog as if they're going to answer you back. Some of the things I've asked myself are a little weird as well. Dogs are absolutely wonderful pets and sometimes they can be human-like. I don't have children but I imagine having a puppy is quite similar to having a toddler sometimes. Here are 7 thing that, if you own a dog, you have asked him/her or even yourself.
1. What is in your mouth?
This is one that every dog owner knows well. Especially in teething puppies, dogs LOVE to chew on stuff, mostly things they're not supposed to chew on. Sometimes your dog will come out of another room making that smacking noise and you just know exactly what's happening. My dog has a fondness for cardboard and socks.
2. What is wrong with you?
If you say you've never asked your dog this, you're a liar. Whether it's because they are acting crazy or because they're whining incessantly even though they have been fed and let outside you have asked your dog what is wrong.
3. Do you need to go outside AGAIN?!
If your pooch is anything like mine they have a bladder the size of a peanut, but only when you're home. My dog can be locked up for hours while we're at work and not pee in the floor the whole time but if we're sitting around watching TV he has to go just about every 30 minutes.
4. Where are you?
When you have a dog and the house is quiet with your dog nowhere in sight you get an eerie feeling that something is probably something being torn up or chewed on right that moment. I constantly find myself yelling from the couch, "Ares, where are you?" only to hear him come running down the stairs with a guilty look on his face.
5. Why did you do that?
This is very similar to "What is wrong with you?" but usually you ask your dog this if they have done something funny and ended up hurting themselves in the process or just did something clumsy.
6. Where do you think you're going?
This is sort of like "Where are you?" but is usually asked when they've been laying next to you and suddenly get up. You know in their heads they're probably thinking about getting into something they shouldn't and they are probably going to wherever that thing is.
7. Are you comfortable?
This is usually asked when your dog is laying on you. Most of the time our pups will lay down in the most inconvenient places for us such as our laps when there is clearly a laptop there.
My dog seems to think he is a cat and likes to crawl and lay across my shoulders when I'm sitting on the couch. Another time this might be asked is when the dog is laying in the spot that you were about to sit or lay down in.
We all love our pups and we know they love us, but being a dog parent is not easy. Next time you find yourself asking your dog these questions just remember how much you love them and give them a big cuddle.
