7 Things Your Past Can't Steal From You

Let's be honest. We have all done things that we regret. We all have a past filled with sin and regret, some of us more than others. The longer you focus on your past, the more it seems to rob you of. It steals your happiness, your confidence, and your contentment. It runs away with your ability to trust and takes the light from your eyes.

As much as you may think you are, you are NOT the things you've done in your past. You are not your addiction or drugs, alcohol, or pornography. You are not the temptation that you can't resist. And you are certainly not the lies fed to you by your shame.

Who you truly are is not something that can be stolen or something that can disappear. Who you are is written in the living Word of God and it is unchangeable, undeniable, and inescapable.

You are KNOWN

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 1:5

"everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed and made.”

Isaiah 43:7

You are LOVED

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."

John 3:16

"but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Romans 5:8

"But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness."

Psalm 85:15

You are FREE

"We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin."

Romans 6:6

You are POWERFUL

"If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus[a] from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you."

Romans 8:11

You are NEW

"I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."

Galatians 2:20

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

2 Corinthians 5:17

"Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy."

1 Peter 2:10

You are A CHILD OF GOD

"But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God."

John 1:12

"for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith."

Galatians 3:26

You are FORGIVEN

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins andto cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

1 John 1:9

"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."

Romans 8:1

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
