Hey, mom, I know you are reading this... I know this just because of the title it has. So, our next conversation is going to be a lot of "I told you so." That's okay, my phone is fully charged and ready.
1). You are right...
I know what you are thinking. " Did she really just say that?" Yes, I did. However, it was not that hard to say. I recently have realized that my parents have been right about a lot of things. I didn't realize this until my parents haven't been right up under me. Since being in college I have had to "adult" quite a few times. These occasions as few and far between as they are have made me realize my parents are right about everything...
2). Thank you
Good grief people, tell your parents thank you. They work hard for you to have a better life than they did because honestly, that is all they want. They want you to be happy, healthy, and productive citizens. Saying thank you every once in a while will make your life so great. They will appreciate it. All they want is for you to realize how much they do for you and acknowledge they do this for your benefit.
3). I miss you
I know missing your parents is really lame, but is it really? News flash, your parents are humans who have human emotions. They like to be told that they are missed. They love you and want the best for you and want to see you grow up and move out, but call them even if it's just to say I love you and miss you. It is really simple. A phone call to say I miss you is not only satisfying their human emotion to be wanted but it is also proof you are still alive. Some days it is questionable.
4). I'm sorry
I'm sorry for missing curfew by 1 minute. I'm sorry for getting a speeding ticket. I'm sorry for not cleaning my room and making my bed. This is the hardest thing to say to anyone... It is especially hard to say to your parents. I know it is for me at least. Like I said earlier, our parents do everything for us. They bend over backwards to give us everything we need and more. When they mess up, they say I'm sorry. Why can't we?
5). I love you
Obviously, this made the list. No one ever says those three simple words enough. If you get in a fight with your parents, say I love you. If you haven't seen your parents in a while, call them and say I love you. Tell your parents you love them. Tell them all the time. Tell them now because believe it or not they will not be there one day to say I love you. So do it now.
I say all of this to not get on you about not telling them, because I fail to often times. However, this is a friendly reminder.
WARNING: Say these things out of love and truth. Not because you want something out of them.
