11 Things Your Mom Doesn't Let You Forget

You could be 7 or 27, and either way, she’ll still remind you about the things you should and shouldn’t do.

11 Things Your Mom Doesn't Let You Forget

What else are moms for if they're not there to remind you about all of the things you forget about daily? Heaven knows we would all be a mess if we didn't remember all of the important events and tidbits of information our mothers choose to share with us. Here are some, but definitely not all, of the important reminders we tend to receive from our moms:

1. She never lets you forget about how hot things are.

“The oven light is on for a reason, sweetie. Pay attention to it.”

2. God forbid you take a study break.

“I don’t care if you’re a senior in high school or a senior citizen. Go do your work.”

3. Sunny and 70 degrees? She doesn’t care. Don’t forget your coat.

“So what if you’ll be inside most of the time? You’ll freeze to death before you even make it there!”

4. You are never allowed to get out of calling relatives. Ever.

“I am well aware that Grandma sent you another hat for Christmas but call and tell her you love it.”

5. A messy room is basically the same as mass destruction.

“How do you ever have friends over in this mess?" "Clean your room or just never go out ever again.”

6. Your siblings are your friends, not your punching bags.

“BENJAMIN MICHAEL, PUT THAT BASEBALL BAT DOWN AND GET AWAY FROM YOUR BROTHER RIGHT THIS INSTANT.”

7. You never are allowed to forget who the champion at Hide ‘n’ Seek is.

“If I go into that room and find your cheerleading shoes, you’re not going to be happy.”

8. She never lets you miss a holiday. Like, any holiday. Ever.

“It’s Abe Lincoln’s birthday! I sent you and your friends all some pennies! You’re welcome!”

9. If you’re ever away, she tends to make sure you remember that your pets exist.

10. You basically are never allowed to miss school.

"Oh, you're sick? Take Tylenol. You're going to school." "Oh, you broke your leg? Take Tylenol. You're going to school." "You're dead? That's too bad. You're going to have to take some Tylenol and go to school and act alive."

11. But the most important thing she always reminds you about is how much she cares.

"I'm yelling at you for leaving wet and muddy tracks in the hallway because I care and don't want you to slip and fall and crack your neck. I also don't want to take you to the hospital, I have a very busy day ahead of me."

It doesn't matter how old you get, because your mom doesn't care about age, or about how many times she's told you the same advice over and over again. She cares about you knowing it all. So thank your mom for the advice, even if it seems as pointless as a circle.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
