things your hostess wants you to know

from a hostess :)

35
things your hostess wants you to know

1. Make sure your entire party has arrived

If one person walks in for a party of fourteen, I'm sorry but I can't seat you. No hard feelings but I'm not about to set your table unless everyone is here and accounted for.

2. I know you want a booth

I don't know why booths are so popular but everyone asks for them. Unfortunately, sometimes you just have to get a table, and it's not my fault. I'll try my best if you ask but most of the time please just be polite and don't get mad at me.

3. Stacking plates helps us a lot

Hosts and hostess are the ones that bus tables at my restaurant. During rush, it helps us out a lot when diners stack thier plates when they're done eating.

4. Your table is supposed to be sticky

Lately, have you gone to a resturant and your table's been sticky? Surprising, its supposd to be that way. Because of Covid-19, extra strength santizers are being used on surfaces and while drying, it can leave a sticky residue. So if you think your table is dirty, its the actual opposite.

5. No I don't know how long your wait time is

9/10 I'm just making up a random number. I'll tell you 15 minutes until you're seated, then act surprised when its 40 minutes. I cannot tell time and I cannot predict when the next table will be clear.

6. We seat tables on a rotation

Depending on how many waiters we have working that night, thats how many 'sections' the resturant gets split into. That way waiters have an opportunity to make money. So don't take it personally if I can't give you a window seat in section 1 but a table in the middle of the floor in section 3.

7. "I was a hostess too..."

Hearing these words make me so annoyed. Customers normally do this when I can't seat them where they want, so they try to explain my job for me. Like I know what I'm doing, and congrats on having the same job as me but please stop.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
