Good Homez College Dorm

It's that time of year where college students are buying school supplies, and dorm room items gearing up for school to start. As an incoming Freshman at Adrian College I started dorm shopping in April because I was just so excited. I've watched YouTube videos, read articles, and scrolled through Pinterest to compile a list of 17 dorm room essentials.

1. USB Power Bed Raisers

Okay, these things are awesome. Not only are you getting some extra space out of it, but you're also getting four additional outlets. We all know especially girls that we run out of outlets like crazy with plugging in our hair straighteners, phone charger, makeup mirror, etc.

2. Bedside Caddy

This is one item I'm so glad I got for my dorm. They are great for storing all the essentials you might need at bedtime. Whether it's your phone, a journal, one of your homework folders, headphones, notebooks, etc. you can just place it in there when you're done, and it is such a convenience!

3. Pant Hangers/Velvet Hangers

These are the hangers you're going to want to get. This is a way to save some space in your closet, the velvet hangers are not bulky which makes additional room for more clothes. The pant hangers are just a great way to hang your jeans or leggings.

4. Hanging Closet Organizer

This is a way to maximize space in your dorm closet. You can put essentially anything you want into these little cubbies.

5. Keurig

This is an absolute necessity if you're a coffee lover. With those early 8 am classes you're definitely going to need an extra little boost and this is a great way to start your morning. Just pick out your favorite k-cup flavor and you're good to go.

6. Handheld Steamer

If you have any wrinkles that you need to get out really quick right before class this is a great item to have when you're low on time, but have some wrinkles.

7. Clip Light

I think that this is an essential item for the sole reason you don't want to keep your roommate up late at night when you're finishing homework. This provides you with enough light for you to get work done, but not too much that it keeps your roommate up.

8. Lap Desk

Trust me on this one. If you love to do your homework in bed, or even rest and watch Netflix this is a perfect item to have.

9. Refillable Water Bottle

It is so important to hydrate during the day while you're traveling between all of your classes. So invest in a water bottle you love and just keep refilling it during the day.

10. Desk Calendar

In addition to a planner I think it is a good idea to get a desk calendar just so that it is something that you look at every single morning on your desk.

11. Rolling Storage Cart

Storage. Storage. Storage.

12. A Notti

Now these are super cool, and I wish I had one. This little thing lights up when you receive a text or notification with no sound. So, you can see it at night or know when you get a text while you're working on homework just by the slight glare of looking at it when it lights up!

13. Mattress Pad

Need I say more? Dorm room beds are as hard as a rock.

14. Planner

College is crazy, and there is so much going on so it's important to have a planner to keep track of everything that is happening on the daily. Keep track of assignments, class times, social events, school events, etc.

15. Back rest Pillow

This is an awesome pillow that will give comfort on your back while you're lounging in bed.

16. Stain Remover

Let's face it we all accidentally spill something on us, and usually at the worst times. You don't have mom to help you with this when your all the way at college so it's important to have some stain remover that you can spray, and then wash to hopefully get out those stains.

17. Project Projector

Most of us probably won't have a TV in our rooms so this is great to prop up and stream your Netflix or a movie, how awesome??!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
