I am a fraternal twin who has embraced the twin lifestyle for the past 18 years. Being a twin has a lot of strings attached, but it has so many great things that come along with it as well. If you are a twin, then you probably understand the following things that I have experienced throughout the years.
1. Your parents dressing you in matching outfits for a good portion of your childhood.
2. You actually don’t have a name since you are collectively known in your family as “the twins."
3. You are probably good friends with someone else who is a twin, too. For some reason we tend to flock together.
4. Being able to gossip together because both of you actually both know who everyone is since you’re in the same grade.
5. Getting huge shocks of confusion and disbelief when you go to a new school and people find out you are a twin.
6. Teachers making a big deal if you are both in the same class.
7. Always having to open presents at the same time because you probably got the same thing in different colors.
8. When you get the, “Who’s older?” question.
Yes, I’m still salty about being a minute younger, but what is with the fixation on this question?
9. When you are separated on your birthday and it doesn’t feel the same.
10. Sharing practically everything while growing up.
It never really stopped from the minute we were in the womb together sharing nutrients.
11. Possibly working the same job and customers or co-workers getting confused.
12. Knowing that fraternal twins will always be caught in the limelight of identical ones.
We apologize that we aren't as fascinating.
13. Ordering the same thing as your twin just to annoy them at restaurant.
14. Having "twin telepathy."
It's not necessarily telepathy, but you have this type of special intuition and can also tell what they are thinking with just a single look.
15. When you are a boy-girl set of twins and people ask you if you are identical or fraternal.
16. People constantly asking you if you like being a twin because they would "love to be one."
Well, to be honest, I have no idea what it's like not being a twin so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I guess it's pretty cool.
