Things You Should Start in 2017: Bullet Journaling

As cliche as this may sound, I really want to make 2017 my year. I have set realistic goals that I want to accomplish for my self esteem and for my general well-being. The first thing, and one of the most important things (in my opinion), that i'm going to start doing this year is Bullet Journaling. Created by Ryder Carroll, this simple analog system is meant to help you organize your life in an easy and flexible way. I have seen snapshots of people's journals all over Pinterest and it looks very doable, so I am using the excuse of the New Year to start my own. The way you make your journal can be as creative and as detailed as you want; it is all up to you!

In this article, I'm going to explain the basics of getting started with your journal and how you can get creative and personalize it. I also recommend doing a lot of research starting with the official Bullet Journaling website and then seeing what works for you because some of the things that I'm going to do, you may not need to do or see a purpose for. Enjoy :)

1. The Index and the Key

In all of my research, everyone has put an emphasis on the Index and the Key. The Index is used to categorize all of entries and collections and also just make it easier to find something in your journal; the Key is used as a guide for all of the symbols you will be using.

2. Future Log

The Future Log helps you keep track of events and deadlines that are months in advance.

3. Monthly Calendar

The Monthly Calendar is an overview of the coming month. In my journal, I am going to have 2 monthly calendars: one for academics and one for other monthly events. I will also be adding an exercise chart where I'll be tallying off everyday how I've exercised because that is another important thing I want to do a lot this year.

4. Daily Entries

Daily entries can include your tasks and whatever else you want to record for that day. In my daily entries, I will be including my water intake, the weather, my tasks and 3 things I am grateful for. You can do whatever you want and can really make it your own.

5. Personalized Collections

Collections are lists that help keep everything in one place. For example, I am making a list of ideas for Odyssey articles. Your lists can be whatever you want.

Thank you for reading and I hope this inspired you to take up this hobby. It is a great way to stay organized, especially if you are in school or are just have a busy life. Have a good New Year and happy journaling! <3

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
